A Doodle About Babies..

I adore newborn babies.
Little miracles.
I love the smell of tiny babies.
I love them tucked up asleep.
I love them awake with eyes wide open ..
that knowing look of having been here before.
A few borrowed words from The Desiderata
"You are a child of the Universe, no less than the birds and the trees
you have a right to be here"
and from Woodstock
"We are stardust..we are golden.. we are billion year old carbon"
May our oceans be pristine and full of life for you baby!

A Winter Doodle..

Haiku

sour lemons and limes
cure winter's chills and colds
nature's alchemy

or was it the dash of whisky!
This lime looks to me like a fabulous jewel.

Joyful Colours on a Winter's Day..

Continuing in a lemony-gold-orangy theme
see how gold the ginkgo tree is today.
The gorgeous view from my bedroom deck.

Doodle with a Paper Napkin:

This morning I joined a new book club in the city.
A nice way to meet some new friends.
My doodles today incorporate the paper napkin I was given
with a delicious savoury muffin for morning tea.
I decided to keep mine and recycle it into a piece of artwork.
I don't think Lisa would recognize the napkin.

The Frogs Are It!!
I'm not sure where the frogs think they're going.

A Trip Out To Te Pahu.

Kath and I drove out to Te Pahu to have afternoon tea with Josie.
It is so quiet out there in the country.
Thirty years our family home.
Pirongia Mountain.
The memories.
Such a story... now with a beginning, a middle and an end.

My Own Personal Little Celebration Of Light.

I turned on the fairy lights on my deck
to celebrate Winter Solstice.

Posted by Picasa

Winter Solstice

The longest night of the year
and the sun rises on a showery day.
Matariki is in the sky and the days will become longer from now.
Happy Solstice everyone!

Summer solstice for family and friends in the Northern Hemisphere..
and Winter solstice for us down-under.

All Whites ..you are our champions!

I feel so proud to be a kiwi tonight.. our boys have done it again! A draw with the reigning World Cup champions.. Italy! Probably the lowest paid coach.. one of the players works in a bank... don't you love it! Go The All Whites!
Now I must go back to bed..4.15am!

Battles Roar!

Would you believe I did today's doodle at 2am
while The All Whites battle it out with the World Champions..Italy.
At half time as I pop this doodle here, the score is 1-1 !
The vuvuzelas sound like giant bees.
Go NZ!
I had no intention of watching the game but woke and turned on my radio
to hear 1-0 to NZ. So here I am!
I calm my nerves by having another go at waves
inspired by Katsushika Hokusai..

Daily Doodle

Doodling while listening to the news of the world..
thinking of whales... and oil spills...

thinking of the amazing ocean we took for granted...
(very vaguely in the style of that famous Japanese painting The Great Wave ..haha.. but turned out looking more like beer froth)

Orange Persimmons

A bag of persimmons was left at my backdoor
by the Bicycle Fairy.
Such a cheeful colour.
Thank you Bicycle Fairy!

Posted by Picasa
I went around my house looking for more orange.
I found little bits of orange here and there.
It is a nice cheerful colour on a winter's day.
Hospital duty calls! This time it is friend Jan who slipped in the shower
and broke her leg and is waiting for some metal bits!!!!

Out Walking on a Saturday.

I think this pukeko is building her home ready for the spring.
I think she fancies a high rise with a view of the lake.

The ginkgo tree near my home is looking very lovely
all pale greens and yellows
and creates a lovely gold carpet on the ground below.
Three years ago there was an enormous oak tree towering over the ginkgo.
Lightning split it in half and it had to be removed. I felt very sad to see the oak tree go.
The ginkgo stood forlornly, with no branches down one side where the oak had been.
Now look at it. In three years it has sent out branches and looks so beautiful.
She has blossomed in her freedom!

Just Another Doodle

"A kite is a victim you are sure of.
You love it because it pulls
gentle enough to call you master,
strong enough to call you fool:
because it lives
like a desperate trained falcon
in the high sweet air,
and you can always haul it down
to tame it in your drawer."
Leonard Cohen.

Marilyn and Jeff talked about flying a kite. What wonderful things kites are.
Jeff is going to make one for M to fly! How wonderful!

Two young nephews, Chris and Shane arrived with their parents
at our farm once in great excitement because they had a wonderful kite.
Lots of space in the front paddock.. a good breeze.. perfect.
Up went the kite and it flew, a big colourful bird!
What we didn't think about was Mo in the cowshed milking the cows!
The cows saw the kite and began to stampede around the holding yard
and the cows inside kicked off the milking cups ! Pandemonium!
Mo came up out of the milking pit flinging his arms about and yelling at the startled boys
to "get rid of that *!X*!! Blanketty-blank **!X!** thing!
We pulled down the kite and slunk inside and the kite was quietly tucked back into the car
never to appear again.

I just had to put this here.. thank you Gina! Follows our discussion last night M!

I took my camera on my walk around the lake today.
A beautiful sunny day after a cold morning.
I took these pics of fungi I found in "the place where bluebells grow"..
Yesterday turned out to be a happy day.
A surprise visit from two favourite people in my life.. Marilyn and Jeff.

Haiku

no bluebells today
fairy like fungi instead
winter's chill is here

Another doodled Envelope..

This was such a long envelope it did not fit on my scanner.
It was an envelope from our lawyer made from a beautiful paper.
The stamps are from a series of non-denominated stamps with a Kiwiana theme.
(Sometimes I feel akin to a tattooist!)

Haiku

one letter in my box
is worth two in your mind love
write to me today

Daily Doodle on an Envelope..

I don't receive many letters these days.
When I do I often think how nice our New Zealand stamps are.
I began saving envelopes and here is one I have doodled on.

The stamp was issued to celebrate Matariki - New Year.
(June is the time of new light/ new year in Aotearoa/New Zealand.)
It shows Manu Tukutuku.. the bird kite that was traditionally flown at Matariki.
The bird shape reflects the Maori belief that this is how a person's soul or spirit is made manifest.

Haiku for New Year

Ahh Matariki
new light has come to our land
no northern sky this
