Do you have a favourite Cinema?

Mine is The Lido.
It takes me 12 minutes to walk from my home
to The Lido.
The Lido is stylish
and they serve lovely coffee
and delicious edibles.
It does not smell of popcorn.

Sometimes I pop in to see a movie alone.
That always feel slightly like an adventure.

Other times I go along with friends
and that feels like a special occasion.

Recently I have seen
The Artist
and
Hugo.
Two excellent movies.

The regular Met. Opera movies from New York
are among the favourite things my friends and I do.

Thank you The Lido
for making our movie going such a pleasure!

  1. Oh, Joan, I would love the Lido. It does look so elegant from your picture. I remember a theater here that served cookies and coffee during the intermission (who has intermissions any more at movies?).

The movie theater of my childhood was the Lido. It was one of those old theaters of the 20's and 30's and was so lovely. I haven't thought of that in years. Thanks for a visit to your Lido, and a reminder of my past.

    1. During the Met Operas we often have two intermissions. Time for a coffee in one and an ice-cream during the next!

    2. When I come to NZ, Joan, I will take you up on the The Lido - and an ice cream, you say, at the Met Operas? What elegance.

  5. I like the Lido too, but it's a bit far away now (ie our Auckland one). But the Bridgeway is my favourite, just a short drive over the harbour bridge, also showing good movies, and providing comfortable seats and the sort of place where you feel comfortable going on your own.

  6. I've been to the Bridgeway Juliet, with my friend who lives on The North Shore. I saw The Notebook there. Really Nice.

  7. This is really a wonderful cinema, you've got there. The photo of the hall - what do you call it? the lounge? is so cosy. I would like to sit in that chair and have a café au lait before going in. The Artist won Oscar for best movie! I haven't seen them yet. Haven't been downtown in the evening for long.

    Have a nice week-end!

  8. What a wonderful cinema. I do miss the great choices of Santa Fe, NM. I'd been thinking of the old theaters of my youth recently. They conjure some wonderful memories. This one looks very special and inviting.
