i woke at the sound of bird call
and slipped out of the house
while darkness still snooped about my garden
daisies still asleep
dreaming damp dew dreams
and
there she was
goddess of light
like a tongue of fire
sliding
up over Te Aroha
a blessing
of morning
and the birds sang their chorus
a hymn of great beauty
the city was golden then
and slipped out of the house
while darkness still snooped about my garden
daisies still asleep
dreaming damp dew dreams
and
there she was
goddess of light
like a tongue of fire
sliding
up over Te Aroha
a blessing
of morning
and the birds sang their chorus
a hymn of great beauty
the city was golden then
Oh, what joy to read this and see the glorious photos. There's something about a sunrise that is forever marvellous. I love the description of darkness snooping around the garden, and you catching the sleeping daisies. This is pure poetry! Thank you Joan, you have lifted my heart.

ReplyDeleteThe pictures are beautiful - but the poem is sublime! I love your word images and the concise way you have captured the perfect moment. I plan to favorite this and share it with my 9th grader class when we begin our unit on poetry, if you don't mind.
